TWI CL approved for plate and pipe welder assessments

The Education and Skills Funding Agency has approved TWI CL as the first organisation in the industry to conduct end point assessment for level 3 plate and pipe welders.

Pipe welders manually weld pipes to high standards of quality and integrity using a minimum of two manual arc welding processes from tungsten inert gas (TIG), plasma arc welding (PAW), manual metal arc (MMA), metal inert gas (MIG)/metal active gas (MAG), and flux cored arc welding (FCAW).

The requirements under this standard are for the pipe welding of a minimum of four material groups from carbon steel, low alloy steel, high alloy ferritic/martensitic steel, austenitic stainless steel, nickel and nickel alloys, aluminium and aluminium alloys, titanium and titanium alloys, copper and copper alloys.

For a plate welder, the occupation is to manually weld plate and structural components to high standards of quality. This will involve fabrication, construction or repair of fabricated plate assemblies, extrusions and structural components (e.g. channel, H-beams, I-beams, etc.). Plate welders will weld to internationally recognised quality standards using more than one manual arc welding process from tungsten inert gas (TIG), plasma arc welding (PAW), manual metal arc (MMA), metal inert gas (MIG)/metal active gas (MAG) and flux cored arc welding (FCAW) on more than one material group from carbon steel, low alloy steel, high alloy ferritic/martensitic steel, austenitic stainless steel, nickel and nickel alloys, aluminium and aluminium alloys, titanium and titanium alloys, copper and copper alloys.

Successful completion of the Plate or Pipe Welder Level 3 EPA not only demonstrates your skills, knowledge and behaviours of the profession, it also gives you the opportunity to apply to TWI as a technician (TechWeldI), which demonstrates to your employer your academic qualities, your competence and commitment to professionalism, which has been assessed by other engineering professionals, this status is an international recognition of your qualification.

If you are interested in taking advantage of TWI CL’s EPA services or you would like further information, please contact us.
